Tricks Of The Trade:

An Old Cherokee Chief Is Teaching
His Grandson About Life

The chief said, “A fight is going on inside me and it is a terrible fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, worry and ego.

The other wolf is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. This same fight is going on inside you, my Grandson, and inside every other human being as well.

The boy thought about this for a moment and then said to his Grandfather, “Which one will win?” The old chief replied simply, “The wolf that you feed will win.”

There is great wisdom in this short proverb and it made me think about the current economic doom and gloom that is so prevalent in the media these days. I chat with people all the time who are afraid, have lost a lot of their investments, are worried about losing their jobs and their homes and have maxed out credit cards.

There is a lot that we can’t control and we have to try to have faith that the politicians who we elected to office will do their best to sort out this sharp economic downturn. We can however remember that we can control our own lives and the way we respond to troubled times.

  • Think about all you have - not what you think is missing.

  • Be thankful that you live in one of the best countries in the world.

  • Live in the present moment - the future and the past aren’t part of “today”.

  • Give back - there is always someone less fortunate than you are. A kind smile can turn someone else’s day around.

  • Believe that something “wonderful” will happen to you every day.

  • Be grateful.

  • Say “yes” more often.

  • Find the humour in every situation and smile more often.

One of my favourite sayings is:

“The art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on”.

These troubled times will pass - so for all of my wonderful Clients who have expressed fear and worry - you are going to be okay! Some things may change, others will remain the same - but just for today, right now - do you have everything you need?

Regards,

Rosemary...

Mid-Month Market Update:

GTA Housing Re-Sales at 2044 in Mid February

TORONTO - February 19, 2009 - Greater Toronto REALTORS® reported 2044 sales through the first 14 days of February, compared to 2775 sales reported during the same period in 2008.

“While sales have been lower, the housing sector remains one of the pillars of the GTA economy,” said TREB President Maureen O’Neill. “Each existing home transaction generates, on average, more than $33,000 in spin-off spending on renovations and other housing-related items. This spin-off spending translates into jobs.”

“The City of Toronto needs to do its part to encourage homeownership by reducing the tax burden on existing and potential home owners,” said TREB President Maureen O’Neill. “To this end, Greater Toronto REALTORS® are calling on the City to roll back the municipal land transfer tax. We presented our views to the City’s Budget Committee yesterday.”

The average home price in the GTA was $364,748 compared to $385,735 in mid-month February last year.

“It is interesting to note that while the average price was down, the annual rate of price decline slowed compared to the previous four months,” according to Jason Mercer, the Toronto Real Estate Board’s Senior Manager of Market Analysis.

“If this trend continues into the spring, it could point towards average home prices leveling off between $360,000 and $370,000”.

Summary of Mid Month February Sales & Average Prices 2008 and 2009

City of Toronto - (416):

2009 Sales = 816         Average Price = $400,467
2008 Sales = 1066       Average Price = $434,914

Rest of the GTA - (905):

2009 Sales = 2044       Average Price = $341,013
2008 Sales = 2775       Average Price = $355,059
