Market Update

The Year is Off to a Good Start

February 5, 2008 - A strong performance within TREB's Central districts drove the Toronto area real estate market to a healthy 5073 sales in January, off just 2% from last year's record performance, President Maureen O'Neill announced today.
 
"While sales were strong, price increases remained modest, with the average rising 6% (January 2007 to January 2008) to $374,449," said Ms. O'Neill. "There is clearly still a place for the first-time buyer in today's resale market."
 
A Breakdown Of The Market Is As Follows:

TREB's - 28 West Districts had:  1940 sales With an average of - $351,594
TREB's - 14 Central Districts had:  945 sales With an average of - $485,259
TREB's - 23 North Districts had:  966 sales With an average of - $410,289
TREB's - 21 East Districts had:  1224 sales With an average of - $296,838

Average Days On Market in Janaury was 38

A Short Love Story

At this time of year - so close to Valentine’s Day - this is a truly touching story. A man and a woman who had never met before, and were both married to other people, found themselves assigned to the same sleeping room on a Trans-continental train. Though initially embarrassed and uneasy over sharing a room as strangers, they were both very tired and fell asleep quickly. He in the upper bunk and she in the lower. At 1:00 AM, the man leaned down and gently woke the woman saying, “Ma'am, I'm sorry to bother you, but would you be willing to reach into the closet to get me a second blanket? It’s awfully cold up here”. “Why, I have a better idea,” she replied,“Just for tonight, let's pretend that we're married. “Wow! that is a great idea”, he exclaimed - visions of himself as a “manly” man dancing in his head. “Good”, she replied. “Then it’s settled - just get out of bed and get your own blanket. The End.


Neighbourhood Corner - Mississauga:

There were 647 sales in Mississauga this January, a decline of 3% over the first month of 2007. The average price came in at $339,655, a 1% increase over the same time-frame last year. Of these sales, 196 were of detached homes which averaged $516,190, up 8% over January 2007.
